SERVING PUBLIC & PRIVATE SCHOOLS + OUR COMMUNITY

WHAT IS ARTREE ?

ARTREE provides workshops, demonstrations, performances and teacher in-services by selected professional artists in dance, drama, music, and the literary and visual arts.

  • ARTREE workshops and performances are designed to encourage participation and problem-solving and challenge the student to develop personal solutions to the arts problem at hand.

  • In 1984, ARTREE was the result of a long-term study and development by a committee of school administrators, teachers, artist and parents. ARTREE represented the first broad-based effort in the county to enrich the arts experiences of children. The project has been adopted as one facet of arts education within participating schools.

  • The concept of ARTREE was developed out of a commitment to the philosophy that art is a vital component of education. Involvement in the arts is fundamental to our mental, social and physical development.

Teachers appreciate our artists! ARTREE artists are flexible and enjoy working with the teachers ahead of time to provide lesson(s) tailored to their needs. Students love these classes! It is exciting to have art classes taught by artists. For example, in the visual arts, we can provide information on fundamental elements of art, famous artists, techniques and materials, and a number of related topics while teaching students how to do a selected art project.

ARTREE IN THE community

COMMUNITY groups • organizations • events

We provide a similar program for community groups and organizations. If you are looking for a fun and memorable way to augment any event, you can request ARTREE classes! We can help you select a project, and order/bring the materials needed, as well as provide an artist to teach your class. The standard ARTREE fee  ($40 per hour) applies, plus the cost of materials.

ARTREE Goes Almost LIVE!

(online classes)

Online ARTREE classes are put together in collaboration with the Phoenix Creative Collective. As the pandemic hit, it devastated all of us. Life as we knew it was changing. The MAC, along with the schools in and around Merced County closed their doors. Because of this, we had to cancel our Spring Session After School Arts classes, as well as our in-school ARTREE classes.

We chose, like many of you, to take this difficult time and turn it for good! It led to innovation, restructuring, and a lot of beautiful collaboration.

We began our spring session in video format, offering on-demand online content. Then we ran our Youth Arts Summer Camp virtually and continued to offer on-demand classes for Fall 2020, Winter 2021, and Spring 2021 sessions.

We can’t wait to see you all in person at The MAC in the near future!
