Power of One: I Make a Difference!
“The Power of One: I Make a Difference”
is a performance that explores the concept that
each student--each individual--can have a positive
impact on the people and community around them.
Our Young Leaders Performing Arts Company (YLPAC)
is comprised of students, ranging in grade level
from 6th – 12th grades and they will perform
many kinds of dances: Hip Hop, World Cultural dance,
Ballroom, Lyrical, and Broadway Style dance. Each
number supports the theme of making a difference,
whether through the choreography, the lyrics of
the music, or the bridging of culture. Each number
part of our show, we will also introduce our ‘Promise
Merced’ project to the students, and ask that
they each take the following pledge: ‘I promise
my community and myself, that I will give my best
effort to think, speak, and act in a way that shows
kindness toward Merced County”. This is a
project that was developed by our BYL students,
and they have a mission to reach as many people
as possible with their message of hope for our community.
We will hand out a list of ideas of how students
can specifically help in our community.
feel it is important to actively engage the students
in the audience and we will find ways to include
as many of them as possible in our show. We may
use the school students to read and present the
quotes. During a portion of our hip-hop dance, we
will invite a few students to come forward to do
hip-hop freestyle, and at the end of the show we
will do a simple, fun, and engaging dance that is
done as festivals all over the world. We can’t
wait to share this important message with the students
and families of Merced County!
